Turning Glass Turns Heads in Baton Rouge

Passaic, NJ - December 28, 2004 - A striking new look in U-Profile glass - Schwartz/Silver Architects, Inc. literally turned Bendheim's LINIT U-Profile glass around at thenew Shaw Center for the Arts in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. The glazier, BHN Corporation, installed nearly 40,000 square feet of single glazed LINIT U-Profile glass with the flanges facing out. The glass walls function as a rain screen for the façade of the multi-dimensional building scheduled to open in 2005.

The Shaw Center contains an art museum, two theaters, an art studio and a gallery space, and owes its existence to the efforts and generosity of The Arts Block LLC, a joint venture of state and local government, local arts organizations, Louisiana State University and the private sector. Located one block from the Mississippi River, the complex will serve as a dramatic and much anticipated addition to the revitalization of downtown Baton Rouge.

This high profile project is the first application of Bendheim Wall Systems' LINIT U-Profile glass in Louisiana. Recent projects awarded to Bendheim Wall Systems, Inc. include the Diller Scofidio + Renfro designed Institute of Contemporary Art in Boston and the Steven Holl/Rogers Marvel designed Pratt Institute - Higgins Hall in New York. The U-Profile glass system eliminates the need for most vertical and intermediate horizontal framing members. This translucent, structural glazing system meets or exceeds most project design criteria, providing light, function and aesthetics.

From its inception, Bendheim has worked together in partnership with the Lamberts glass factory, founded 1889 in Germany. Today Bendheim Wall Systems, Inc. and Lamberts are bringing LINIT U-Profile glass from Lamberts' environment friendly, state-of-the-art factory to North America.
