Horizontal Glass Fixation in Boston
Passaic, NJ - March 25, 2005 - The unique horizontal application of Bendheim's LINIT U-Profile glass in the top floor serves as the crowning element of one of Boston's premier condominium residences, Atelier/505. Designed by the firms Machado and Silvetti and ADD Architects, the mixed-use building sits adjacent to the Boston Center for the Arts, serving as a gateway to the Back Bay and the Financial District as part of an EPA brownfield project in Boston's South End.
Atelier/505 is a cosmopolitan development that fulfills the challenge of combining luxurious condominiums with retail and cultural uses to address the three communities of the South End - residential, business, and the arts. It is called Atelier/505, combining the French word for an artist's studio having large windows, with the address, 505 Tremont Street. The architects chose the 15 foot Bendheim channel glass units to cap off the dramatic floor-to-ceiling window design, appropriate for an atelier.
This exterior project, installed by Kiva Systems/Karas & Karas, utilizes Bendheim Wall Systems' H-60 Unitized Horizontal Frame System. Recent projects awarded to Bendheim Wall Systems, Inc. include the Diller Scofidio + Renfro designed Institute of Contemporary Art in Boston and the Steven Holl/Rogers Marvel designed Pratt Institute-Higgins Hall in New York. The Bendheim LINIT U-Profile glass system eliminates the need for most vertical and intermediate horizontal framing members. The translucent, structural glazing system meets or exceeds most project design criteria providing light, function, and clean design.
S.A. Bendheim Company, Inc. was founded in 1927 as an importer and distributor of specialty glass products. From its inception, Bendheim has worked together in partnership with the Lamberts glass factory, founded 1889 in Germany. Today Bendheim Wall Systems, Inc. and Lamberts are bringing LINIT U-Profile glass from Lamberts' environment friendly, state-of-the-art factory to North America.
