Glass in the Red, White, and "Green"- Swiss Embassy Residence
Passaic, NJ - April 14, 2005 - The dramatic new Swiss Embassy residence, with views of the Washington Monument and the National Mall, makes a prestigious addition to the list of Washington, DC foreign embassy buildings. Bendheim's LINIT U-Profile glass contrasting with slate-trimmed grey concrete produces a crisp, clean effect in this cross-shaped design from the U.S./Swiss architectural team of Steven Holl and Justin Rüssli. The complex features 10,000 square feet of Bendheim's exclusive SGCC certified tempered, low iron, sandblasted, Solar texture U-Profile glass installed in Bendheim's RS60 Rain Screen frame system by Tidewater Glazing.
Conforming to the strict Swiss MINERGIE® code, the new residence includes reception rooms for cultural events as well as living quarters. The Swiss Embassy residence will operate at high levels of efficiency, consuming half as much energy as a typical building structure. The new residence is another project conforming to the LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) silver standard that utilizes the Bendheim LINIT U-Profile Wall System.
Recent projects awarded to Bendheim Wall Systems, Inc. include the Diller Scofidio + Renfro designed Institute of Contemporary Art in Boston and the Cesar Pelli/Architectural Alliance designed Minneapolis Central Library. The U-Profile glass system eliminates the need for most vertical and intermediate horizontal framing members. This translucent, structural glazing system meets or exceeds most project design criteria, providing light, function, and aesthetics.
S.A. Bendheim Company, Inc. was founded in 1927 as an importer and distributor of specialty glass products. From its inception, Bendheim has worked together in partnership with the Lamberts glass factory, founded 1889 in Germany. Today Bendheim Wall Systems, Inc. and Lamberts are bringing LINIT U-Profile glass from Lamberts' environment friendly, state-of-the-art factory to North America.
